Small and medium-sized life science companies operating in the Västerbotten county in Sweden will double in numbers over the next ten years, while a vibrant scientific community will add to the growth. These are the goals set by Umeå Biotech Incubator (UBI), which is now entering a new development phase of its incubator operation in Umeå.

The Nordic Life Science Days will kick off on Friday the 10th of September 2018 with a live pitch competition co-hosted by Umeå Biotech Incubator. The 12 startups who will present in the finals have now been selected.
Umeå region’s life science companies and Umeå Biotech Incubator (UBI) have generated great successes during recent years. One of the contributing factors is the unique process that has been developed during the three-year HIBA project.
Startup Challenge is a pitch-event during Nordic Life Science Days (NLSDays) at Stockholm Waterfront, where the best startup companies from the Nordic life science scene get the chance to show off their ideas for hundreds of investors. This year the event is being organised by Umeå Biotech Incubator and preparations are in full swing.
The ninth edition of Biotech Umeå’s annual partnering event was the first ever to fill up before deadline. Around 30 Swedish and European investors met with 13 startups and early cases. Two weeks after the event participants report an impressive turnout – on average they have retained at least five active leads per company.
The first ever edition of Meet Umeå Life Sceince gathered over 70 branch experts, entrepreneurs and researchers in Stockholm. This after-work networking mingle allowed startups to connect with experienced professionals with industrial expertise and business know-how. The aim was to match our promising ideas with the skills necessary to grow successfully.
As we enter 2018, we look back at a hectic, inspiring and successful year for the incubator-related community of life science companies in Umeå. We are experiencing a surge in incoming ideas, elevated interest from the industry and a stronger demand for the incubator facilities and labs.
Sedan 2012 har Umeå Biotech Incubator (UBI) varit en av de utvalda inkubatorerna inom det så kallade ”Excellensprogrammet”. Under maj-juli 2017 utvärderade Vinnova programmets sökande med 14 platsbesök och intervjuer runtom i landet. Nu kommer beskedet att UBI återigen klassas som excellent och därmed beviljas två miljoner per år under 2018 och 2019.
Strukturerat och långsiktigt arbete som gett konkreta resultat. Det är bakgrunden till valet av årets pristagare. När Umeå kommun för fjärde året i rad delar ut jämställdhetspriset går det till den medicinska inkubatorn Umeå Biotech Incubator.
Umeå Biotech Incubator har för andra gången tilldelats medel från Familjen Erling-Perssons stiftelse, den här gången på 17 miljoner. Resultaten från tidigare anslag har gett god effekt – inkubatorns externa kapital till start-up- bolagen har ökat med över 200 procent mellan 2014 och 2015. Nu förlängs samarbetet mellan inkubatorn och stiftelsen i ytterligare tre år.
